ABOUT THE NIALL STRINGER FOUNDATION

To lose a young life to suicide is one of the most heart breaking tragedies and something which can be prevented.

The Niall Stringer Foundation aims to help prevent more tragedies like ours occur.

OUR STORY

Niall was a caring young lad who had time for everyone who surrounded him.

He  grew up in the Southend area, and loved his rugby, music, and the local skate park and the colour Pink.

Niall played rugby for Old Brentwoods RFC and was a season ticket holder at Gloucester Rugby Club. He used to follow the Cherry & Whites all over the country with his younger brother Callum & dad Phil. He loved rugby and was an  incredibly talented player in his own right.

His infectious personality was loved by so many including his school mates and teachers, at King John School in Benfleet, his rugby mates and his skater pals.

Tragically, months before his 18th birthday, on 18th February 2022, Niall took his own life.

Niall’s sad passing prompted a reaction from all who loved him dearly and the #NS10 movement was formed.

His family, coaches & teammates, channelled their emotions into wanting to make sure they could help others in a positive way with clear goal to promote mental health awareness and wellbeing in sports clubs across the UK.

The rugby community came together for a Memorial Day in May 2022, which included a match which was refereed by international referee Christophe Ridley, who is also one of our patrons, and alongside messages of support from Rugby greats such as Will Greenwood, Michael Lynagh, Jason Robinson, Jackson Wray & Johnny Wilkinson, the Niall Stringer Foundation was born.

One year on from the memorial day, off the back of an absolute tragedy, we are making a positive step to help in the prevention of suicide by using the power of sport to raise awareness around mental health and wellbeing.
