Mental Health Training

Mental health first aid training

The Niall Stringer Foundation has raised money to support sports clubs across the UK in participating in The Mental Health First Aider Training.

Why this matters?

The Foundation has one clear mission: to raise awareness of mental health and equip sports clubs with the tools to actively contribute to suicide prevention in young people.

The training

The courses take place over two days within your sports club and local community, bringing people together to share  experiences and learn new skills to support others.

After the initial course, the Niall Stringer Foundation and Your Wellbeing Hub will work with the sports club to help facilitate the set-up of the club's wellbeing committee and provide further training where possible.

Feedback from people who have trained as mental health first aiders.

Sally Desborough was amazing not only in how kind and approachable she was but I really liked how it was structured and I never felt overwhelmed or bored.

Sally made the session very engaging and everyone only has positive reviews, clear pathway was laid out and as the session went on everyones capability to role play improved. This prepares everyone to be more ready when in a situation requiring the application of ALGEE

Sally was amazing and we learnt so many useful skills on how to deal with someone suffering with mental health. Extremely important course.

Sally made us feel very welcome and comfortable and got the most out of our conversations as a result.

The course was really informative and engaging. I really liked how it was structured and I never felt overwhelmed or bored.

The course was very informative and well run. The practice scenarios were definitely good to understand how you can apply what we have learned in real life.

Sally is an enthusiastic knowledgeable and patient instructor that created a safe and comfortable environment for learning about a difficult and at times very sensitive subject.

The course reminded me how important MHFA training is.

The course instructor was great, the course itself was a lot of information. The instructor was very professional. Very good course will recommend to others.

Very good instructor, everything was explained well and clearly, would definitely recommend the course to anyone who is thinking of doing it.

Just wanted to say a big thank you and well done to Sally for her amazing and understanding of the subject.

Sally the lead instructor delivered the course with clear and concise objectives. She was very personable and made the learning environment comfortable by giving choice whether you wanted to participate or not in certain activities. Sally was aware that learners could be triggered by certain topics and gave options to remove yourself from the room. It made me feel very comfortable and prepared. I have increased my knowledge in Mental Health information and I am better equipped with factual information and skills to help others in my place of work, personal life and in the wider community. This knowledge has brought me so much joy as mental health awareness and support is very important ito me.

This was an opportunity funded by The Niall Stringer Foundation THANK YOU.

ONLINE COURSE

Excellent thank you lots of refreshers and reminders from a previous course a few years ago, however lots of good content to take forward. Ross was excellent in the knowledge and the course delivery, really nice pace making it very relaxed, safe and always inclusive. Pre course communication very good and clear instructions app superb. Thanks

ONLINE COURSE

The instructor Ross was outstanding and the sessions were engaging throughout.

Overall the course was very educational and easy to understand. I liked the fact that we were reminded to look after ourselves. (self care) I also recognised that I do a lot of the ALGEE in my job. I appreciate the course and will be using the knowledge I learnt from it.

The MHFA course was excellent and presented in a way that was easy to understand and apply in real life. I now feel more confident with recognising someone having mental health worries and able to have a non-judgemental useful conversation with them. I think the supporting app giving clear pathways to help is also a great asset. Thank you very much to Sally it was a great and worthwhile 2 days.
